Meet Shi Shi
For those of you I’ve not bumped into in the Co-op…
I am your average everyday Lewis girl: born and raised in Nagaland northeast India (yes it is a real place and you don’t get there through a wardrobe!) settled in Stornoway (via South Lochs) for over 20 years where I have raised two gaelic speaking children - now flown the nest, kind of.
Oh yea - I am going through the menopause. For those of my girls on this particular part of the journey - solidarity sisters! For those yet to get there, spoiler alert: it sucks. The menopause sucks. Here’s why:
takes in deep breath I get hot flashes, I rarely sleep through the night, my stomach bloats, I gained weight, I can’t sleep (I repeat myself), my mood swings all over the place, I am exhausted a lot, and I can’t remember stuff - it affects me at home, at work, in my mind and body.
A massage changed my life
A couple of years ago I had a full body massage and it changed my life. Having someone care for me through touch unlocked something in me; especially as it included those areas that often get neglected like the feet, legs, and even my belly. The parts where we need it most, but are the most sensitive about.
It didn’t take my symptoms away (sorry girls, they come back), but it had a profound effect. The human touch, the total relaxation, the safe space just for me, the quiet, the care. They sound like simple things, but as you all know modern work and family life can feel like chaos - this settled the noise.
When my body relaxed, my mind followed - it directly helped with some symptoms: muscle fatigue, bloating, constipation, mood and feelings.
That’s when I decided I wanted to help people like me through massage.
I started the long journey figuring out how I can do this. I used my decade of experience in luxury organic skincare to identify the best training, saved up my pennies and went to Cumbernauld to train at the amazing Academy.
I did a specialist qualification in Menopausal massage where I learned about ancient Chinese practice of acupressure points. No, I am not and do not speak Chinese, but they know their stuff!
By massaging certain points on the body you can alieviate some menapausal symptoms.
