Why I only massage women

I get asked this a lot, so here's the honest answer: I offer massage therapy for women because women's bodies deserve a therapist who works with nothing else. This is a specialism, not a preference. Everything I do — the technique, the pace, the focus — is shaped around how a woman's body actually holds tension, stress, and change.
A massage practice built entirely around women's bodies
When you do one thing and one thing only, you get good at it in a way a general practice never can. I'm not fitting women in around everyone else — you are the practice. That focus means I recognise patterns most therapists rarely see enough of to understand: how tension shifts across a hormonal cycle, how the body changes through pregnancy and beyond, how stress settles into the same tired places year after year.
And I'm not reading any of this from a textbook. I know what it is to be pregnant, to give birth, to raise two children, and to get older. I've lived in the body I work on, which means I understand it as more than a set of muscles. Every woman I treat teaches me something new, and that keeps me getting better at what I do.
How women's bodies respond differently
Women's bodies respond to massage differently from men's, and not just in the obvious ways. Hormonal cycles shift tension and sensitivity from week to week, where men's levels stay comparatively stable. A wider pelvis changes posture and the way strain gathers in the lower back. Connective tissue is more elastic, which brings its own kind of instability, and stress tends to collect in the neck, shoulders, and hips.
This is why a nurturing, calming touch matters so much. It isn't only about easing a tight muscle. The right kind of massage helps settle the nervous system and bring the whole body back into balance — and knowing exactly where a woman carries that load is half the work.
Why my focus stays on women
I do get a fair few enquiries from men, and I always send them on to one of the other brilliant therapists here on the Isle — they're in very good hands. Is turning away half the island the sharpest business decision I've ever made? Probably not. But I need all my energy and focus in one area.
Also, women's health and wellbeing deserves proper, specialist focus, and that's exactly what I've built. So if you've been meaning to do something kind for yourself, come and see Shi Shi and get some real TLC. Connect with me on Messenger to reserve your spot.
